Thatcher Drew has been think tank vice president, award-winning filmmaker and internet entrepreneur. He currently helps nonprofits manage their technology infrastructure (501square.com) and engages in climate change initiatives.

Thatcher graduated DePauw University with an area major in Communications. He studied the effects of technology on language, thought and reality and subsequently served as vice president of a Venrock-inspired think tank that focused on early Apple computers, programmable calculators and the creation of massive science education efforts.

Thatcher’s first job in film was as runner at JFK’s funeral. He grew up working in the Drew Associates editing rooms and on location for Bell Telephone Hour documentaries on the great performers of the day. He briefly became a cinematographer shooting IBM national advertising. He subsequently produced broadcast documentaries and communications projects for the leading corporations.

In 1990 Thatcher founded Drew/Fairchild Inc. with Steve Fairchild. His Journeys series had top-ten ratings on PBS. He produced America’s Wilderness Heritage for BBC and Discovery along with many other films. He earned a “Best Continuing News Story” Emmy nomination for his PBS documentary, Who Will Teach for America. He created some of the early multimedia education efforts for Hachette and Time Warner.

In 1996 he focused on the emerging internet, helping to found some of the pioneering digital agencies. He was often involved with leading online education projects. Thatcher was a founding investor in ConsumerSearch.com (sold to The New York Times). His work on ADP.com was given the Stevie Award for “Best Corporate Site.”

Thatcher is an avid hiker, long-distance kayaker and sailor. He was given Westchester Parks Foundation’s “Best Volunteer” award for founding Vinecutters (vinecutter.com).
